Old Mission Point

Located on the 45th Parallel halfway between the North Pole and the Equator, this lighthouse marks the point separating the East and West Arms of Grand Traverse Bay.

A 1-1/2 story, white frame dwelling with a 30-foot square frame tower projecting from gabled roof, nestled in a forest of green trees. Built in 1870, The station was closed in 1933, and the lighting apparatus has been removed.

Other structures on the site have included a brick pump house, brick storage shed, a log home dating from 1856 and wood frame garage.

Located in a Michigan State Park at the north end of Route 37 from Traverse City, in Old Mission, Michigan. The water in front of the lighthouse is very shallow.

The lighthouse is maintained by Peninsula Township and is a private residence for the parks caretaker. The house is not open to the public, but the grounds are open.
