Robert
H. Manning Memorial Light This slender round column was built in 1991, and is the newest lighthouse in Michigan, and the second memorial light in the state (William Livingstone is the other). Located at the harbor entrance to Empire. Michigan, the light was dedicated to an avid local fisherman and life-long resident of Empire. Manning often remarked that a light was needed to guide fisherman in from Lake Michigan after evening fishing trips. The light was built with donations from family and friends. The three-story stucco tower is painted white and sits on an octagonal concrete foundation. Located in a nice park and beach area on Lake Street in Empire, Michigan. |
